Preparatory Phase

The family is considered a private domain.  Delving into its affairs could be misconstrued as an intrusion into its privacy. Hence, ample preparation is needed to build trust with the family.

Identifying and Selecting the Potential Household Practitioners

The initial stage is to establish contact key leaders of the local organization, known personalities in the community or local government officials.  These contacts identify HH nominees using the criteria specified by the implementing group or organization.  An initial background check and baseline profile of the nominee households is conducted. Result of the data gathering serves as the basis for approaching the nominee HH.

Familiarizing and Establishing Contact with Selected Household

Before the actual engagement, an orientation on HHDA is conducted among HH member representatives of the selected household. The orientation revolves around the nature, scope and processes involved in household development.   Families are oriented with possible scenarios that may crop-up in the process of discussing household issues and concerns.  A casual meeting with some members of the family is done to collect additional information to further familiarize the NGO with the households. Finally, a meeting with all the members of the household is conducted to get their approval and to gauge their willingness to undertake the process.
